Well, God's doing a great job of teaching me patience and flexibility! I was running some fever last night and felt a little under the weather. I've had a stuffy nose and sore throat, but haven't thought much of it. This morning I woke up and my right eye was completely swollen shut and hurt really bad. Mom drove me to the eye doctor and they told me I have been fighting a mild infection (like a cold) which somehow managed to move up into my eyes and cause blisters on both corneas. Apparently your immune system is really suppressed during pregnancy and a common cold can do some weird things. The right eye is just much worse than the left. SO, I'm in my glasses for 10 days and have to put these drops in my eye that I can't let go into my tear duct because it might get into my bloodstream and the baby would get it. My baby doctor approved it, but still, craziness!
The worst part is my vision is impaired so I can't drive! I just got back to driving at the end of last week since my back issues for the last month. SO, my mom has been driving me around in my new car. Fun for her! I am extremely sensitive to sunlight, so I have to wear these little plastic shades under my glasses and I look like a big goober!!! Dustin's entertained though!
Hopefully I will be all done being sick, etc soon. My goal is to make it one full week without having to see a doctor of any kind before the baby gets here!!! Even better, I'm hoping since mom's had so many challenges, baby will be perfectly healthy and our first year will breeze by with no problems at all!

God's making me a Mom!
A baby asked God, 'They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?' God said, 'Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you.'
The child further inquired, 'But tell me, here in heaven I don't have to do anything but sing and smile to be happy.' God said, 'Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you. And you will feel your angel's love and be very happy.'
Again the child asked, 'And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me if I don't know the language?' God said, 'Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak.'
'And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?' God said, 'Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray.'
'Who will protect me?' God said, 'Your angel will defend you even if it means risking its life.'
'But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore.' God said, 'Your angel will always talk to you about Me and will teach you the way to come back to Me, even though I will always be next to you.'
At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, 'God, if I am to leave now, please tell me my angel's name.'
God said, 'You will simply call her, 'Mom.'

Mommy-Mobile

Dustin and I are SO excited! Today we got a family car I can fit the baby in! Everyone knows how much I love my Bug, but it just isn't feasible for a family. (My sister will inherit it!) Here's a pic of me with it outside of our house. It has 4-wheel drive which means I can get out when it rains! Our road requires 4-wheel drive and some ground clearance, so there are more perks than a place to put a car seat!
Though you can't see it well in the picture, it's a blue-ish silver with a blue-grey interior. Leather was a must with little spills in the future! It's very comfy and I can envision a nice, peaceful trip to the hospital in about 6 months! Now I can tote kiddos (including my nephews!) around with ease! This was a great big check off our to-do list before the baby gets here!

Just a Mom?
I got this from my pregnancy website from another August Mommy. Love it! It's kind of long, but worth it! I LOVE adding another title to Director of Youth and Children's Ministries, Master's of Education Student, and Mary Kay Beauty Consultant. I'm ready for Mom!
JUST A MOM?
A woman, renewing her driver's license at the County Clerk 's office was asked by the woman recorder to state her occupation. She hesitated, uncertain how to classify herself.
"What I mean is," explained the recorder,"do you have a job or are you just a......?"
"Of course I have a job," snapped the woman.
"I'm a Mom."
"We don't list 'Mom' as an occupation, 'housewife' covers it,"said the recorder emphatically.
I forgot all about her story until one day I found myself in the same situation, this time at our own Town Hall. The Clerk was obviously a career woman, poised, efficient and possessed of a high sounding title like,"Official Interrogator" or "Town Registrar."
"What is your occupation?" she probed.
What made me say it? I do not know. The words simply popped out. "I'm a Research Associate in the field of Child Development and Human Relations."
The clerk paused, ball-point pen frozen in midair and looked up as though she had not heard right.
I repeated the title slowly emphasizing the most significant words. Then I stared with wonder as my pronouncement was written,in bold, black ink on the official questionnaire.
"Might I ask." said the clerk with new interest."just what do you do in your field?"
Coolly, without any trace of fluster in my voice,I heard myself reply,"I have a continuing program of research, (what mother doesn't)in the laboratory and in the field, (normally I would have said indoors and out). I'm working for my Masters, (first the Lord and then the whole family) and already have four credits (all daughters). Of course, the job is one of the most demanding in the humanities,(any mother care to disagree?) and I often work 14 hours a day, (24 is more like it). But the job is more challenging than most run-of-the-mill careers and the rewards are
more of a satisfaction rather than just money."
There was an increasing note of respect in the clerk's voice as she completed the form, stood up and personally ushered me to the door.
As I drove into our driveway, buoyed up by my glamorous new career,I was greeted by my lab assistants -- ages 13, 7, and 3. Upstairs I could hear our new experimental model,(a 6 month old baby) in the child development program, testing out a new vocal pattern. I felt I had scored a beat on bureaucracy! And I had gone on the official records as someone more distinguished and indispensable to mankind than"just another Mom." Motherhood!
What a glorious career! Especially when there's a title on the door.
Does this make grandmothers"Senior Research associates in the field of Child Development and Human Relations"and great grandmothers"Executive Senior Research Associates"? I think so!!! I also think it makes Aunts"Associate Research Assistants".
Please send this to another Mom, Grandmother, Aunt, and other friends you know.
May your troubles be less, your blessings be more and nothing but happiness come through your door!

Felt the Baby Move!!!
Last night, I felt the baby move! Apart from a few flutters during church last Sunday and Dustin being able to see which side of my tummy the baby was on, this was the first time the baby MOVED. I was laying on my back in the bathtub, of all places, and was talking up a storm to Dustin. I propped up on my arms with my tummy muscles tightened and proceeded to point out to Dustin that I no longer have a figure. I use to have a nice little hour-glass and now it's all widened into a near straight line from my shoulders to my hips. *Sigh* Well, I guess all the warm water got things moving!
At about 7 o'clock from my belly button, all the sudden there was a lurch! It was like the baby rolled over! I could feel it twist inside and I must have caught a shoulder or a leg or possibly the head. I grabbed Dustin's hand and put it on the spot where I could feel him/her move to, but it was too deep inside for him to feel anything yet. It was the weirdest and most amazing feeling ever!

Dandi found the Baby!

Well, I've been praying for anything positive to associate with this baby. Right now my fondest memories of this pregnancy will have been the appearance of my toilet! (I've honestly considered taking a picture of it and putting it in a baby book. "Look sweetie! This was were we spent our first 6 weeks together!") Well, today God gave me a break and I got to enjoy something!
I was sitting in the recliner of our sofa when my sweet dog Dandi jumped up and started sniffing my tummy. At first I thought she might be looking for crumbs or something, but then she looked at me and started wagging her tail! I said, "Dandi? Did you find the baby?" and she got so excited she stuck her head under my shirt and sniffed my belly button! By the time Dustin got home, I could ask her "Dandi, where's my baby?" and she runs over and starts sniffing my belly! It's adorable! She just thinks my tummy is the neatest thing now! I'm SO glad to have something positive and exciting to share!

Greatful for Feeling Green
Today, I am greatful that I have been so consistently sick throughout the first trimester. Three of the ladies on my What to Expect chatroom forum for August Mommies have lost their babies this week. They were all due within days of us, so I can't imagine what they must be feeling. It has been a very difficult first trimester and I have been very sick, but today, I am greatful for the constant reminder that our little one is OK.

Heartbeat!!!
Today Dustin and I went to Nacogdoches to the OB to check up on the baby. We got to hear our little plum's heart beat! It took forever to find, but then, Swish Swish Swish, we heard it. When the nurse said "There it is!" we smiled at each other. Then the baby got excited and you could hear the heartbeat clearly and it sped up like it was excited. I think this was our first game of Hide-n-Seek! We found him/her and he/she was excited to say "Here I am!" It was a really neat moment!
Our trip was only shortly delayed this morning with a stop for some morning sickness. (Dustin ate a Rolaids and the smell was too much to handle!) Another great plus was that the doctor refilled my wonderful anti-nausea medicine and I'm getting to eat food and keep it down again! I've lost 8 lbs so far, so now I get to gain the 8 back and the recommended 20. How on earth am I going to gain 28 lbs in 28 weeks!?! We will see! It was such a great day to spend together and we're so excited to know that in 8 weeks we will be returning together to see our little one on the Sonogram TV!

Whew!
I haven't posted in a while because I've been down for the count. 2 weeks ago I was hospitalized with severe back pain. My doctor discovered that I had close to no Sodium in my system and was in bad shape. After 3 days in the hospital, they released me to my Chiropractors who began to get me on the mend and concluded that it is most likely I was passing kidney stones. Ouch! Without the ability to do XRays, we will never know for sure. All the nurses in the hospital kept assuring me that the pain I was in was much worse than labor will be, so at least I have something to look forward to!
I'm slowly recovering and doing my best to regain some independence. I'm having to watch my diet closely and am on these wonderful little pills called Zophram that keep me from vomitting all day every day. For once, despite the bad back pain, I feel normal again!
I don't know what I would have done without Dustin. After some time in the hospital together, I think we both feel a little more prepared for labor and delivery in the future. He was incredible and, bless his heart, had to do everything for me for a while. He is such a wonderful person and I feel so good knowing our little one will have him for a dad. If he's half as good of a father as he is a husband, this baby will be the most loved and cared for child in the world!
